If you are going to be surfing the Internet instead of the shopping mall this holiday season, you may want to closely check your shipping options twice, to ensure that your gifts arrive on time.
For orders placed with Amazon.com, the deadline for Dec. 24 delivery using standard shipping is Dec. 18. For free “Super Saver” shipping, available on qualifying orders of $25 or more, the deadline moves up to Dec. 17.
Orders from Target.com will need to be placed by Dec. 18 for standard shipping on items that usually ship within 24 hours. To view a complete list of shipping deadlines, visit the “Holiday Shipping” page in the “Shipping Info” section on Target’s Web site.
BestBuy.com offers buyers a guarantee on qualifying standard-shipping orders placed by 11:59 p.m. local time Dec. 21 for delivery by or on Dec. 24. The guarantee does include a $10 or $20 digital coupon. The actual amount will depend on the cost of the order, as well as credited shipping if the item is late.
Barnes & Noble customers can place orders at bn.com through Dec. 18 for delivery before Dec. 25 using its regular “expedited” shipping, free for orders that top $25. Customers at Borders.com have through Dec. 16 for standard shipping, also free on $25 or more.
Retailers’ deadlines for Hanukkah, which begins Dec. 21, vary — don’t just work back from Dec. 24 deadlines. Delivery dates outside the lower 48 states also vary, as do exceptions for some merchandise, so check the Web sites.
The key message here is check, check and check again. Don’t be the only shopper on the planet to see your special gift for someone arrive AFTER Christmas! Bah Humbug!
